Dr. Ronald E. McNair School of Digital Communication and Leadership (DREM-DCL) strives to create an environment conducive to learning with high expectations for all students that will promote student growth in the areas of academics and social emotional learning. We believe that each child is unique and can learn when operating in a safe, consistent, and engaging environment that fosters emotional, intellectual, physical, and social growth. Our mission is to empower all students with the necessary skills and knowledge, to lead productive lives and contribute to the global economy.
DREM-DCL is a Leader in Me School that teachers and promotes the use of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Utilizing this program has provides leadership and academic skills that have improved the academic performances and leadership opportunities for a broad spectrum of students. In addition, we are a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school that promotes positive behavior and safety for all students. Our 21st Century Community Grant allows for academic enrichment, nutrition and health education, technology education, financial literacy programs, arts (music, physical fitness, STEM), educational field trips and counseling services for students during the summer and after-school.
DREM-DCL is 1:1 school when it comes to technology which means all students are provided a technology device at no cost. Students are able to access all of their classes and assignments in google classroom. The school operates on a six period class schedule with one period being an intervention block. Dreambox and Lexia:Power-up are two intervention programs currently being used. Daily Panther Prep is a thirty minute period built into the schedule to provide academic goal conferences, knowledge and applications of Seven Habits and PBIS, SEL development, advisory period and independent reading.
Our teachers continue to participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) to enhance their pedagogical practices and to their ability to analyze data to intentionally drive instruction. In addition to school and district level professional development opportunities, many of our instructional staff participated in off-site PD/and or conferences sponsored by the South Carolina State Department, the Leader in Me, and other content specific conferences.
The administration and faculty of Dr. Ronald E. McNair School of Digital Communication and Leadership remain committed to ensuring all students have support. DREM-DCL is extremely appreciative for the support from parents and the community as we continue to move forward and help our students gain the knowledge and deeper learning skills needed to succeed in life, college and the careers of tomorrow.
