Glenview Middle School helps all students with the development of world class skills and life and career characteristics as outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We continue to actualize our mission by educating students with the skills and work-ethic needed to be successful in high school as they prepare to become college and career-ready. Our teachers work collaboratively to provide students with rigorous and relevant, hands-on learning experiences. Our students consistently meet or exceed the district and state averages on norm-referenced and state assessments. Glenview received an EXCELLENT on our last School Report card (Pre-COVID) given by the South Carolina Department of Education. On March 26, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education waived federal accountability requirements and granted flexibility in administering assessments due to COVID-19. The results displayed on our most recent report card should not be compared to those of other years due to the testing limitations as a result of the pandemic. In addition, these results may be incomplete and may not be representative of the school population. In order to provide the best instruction for the students at Glenview our teachers participate in continuous professional development. Our foci for professional development have been: (1) research-based practices in instruction and assessment, (2) development of common assessments, (3) data analysis to drive student-centered instruction, and (4) the integration of technology to enhance learning experiences. Teachers continue to receive intensive Google training to facilitate the use of Chromebooks to promote student engagement and creativity. Our instructional emphasis this school year was on differentiation and how best to meet the diverse instructional needs of all students. Teachers had opportunities to participate in professional development on grouping and the use of station rotations to best meet the educational needs of the students in their classroom. All students are required to take a technology course in 6th, 7th and 8th grade at Glenview. Developing the technological skills necessary to be prepared for college and career is essential to the academic growth that occurs at Glenview. Students at Glenview have the opportunity to receive a well-rounded education with a strong extra-curricular emphasis in STEM and Arts education. Students may choose two elective courses in which they have an interest. They may enroll in STEM related courses including PLTW, Introduction to Computer Programming and Robotics or Arts courses including Visual Art, News Broadcasting and Video Production, Band, Strings, Music or Drama. STEM and Art electives promote student engagement and give students a voice in their education. Students also have an opportunity to make a difference in our community by organizing can food drives and raising money for the United Way. Our administration and teachers understand the importance of developing partnerships with families and continue to enhance school-to-home communication through the principal’s weekly phone blasts, teachers’ weekly e-blasts, quarterly newsletters, updated websites, and online gradebooks. Our PTO and Booster Club are integral parts of the infrastructure of Glenview. Through strong communication and collaboration, we have provided our students with creative and critically thinking experiences, essential organizational tools, and real world experiences to help our students be college and career ready.
