Lowcountry Acceleration Academy (LAA) engages all students which we refer to as Graduation Candidates to develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by pursuing our mission to re-engage young adults who have not experienced success in traditional high school settings by helping them to identify their academic and personal potential, overcome obstacles, build confidence —and pursue a personalized academic program to earn their high school diploma and build the foundation for a brighter future.
Lowcountry Acceleration Academy believes that all young people, regardless of past academic performance or personal obstacles, are capable of graduating from high school ready to engage in post-secondary and job success. As Graduation Candidates, the young people who complete their coursework at Lowcountry Acceleration Academy will be constantly reminded that graduation is both the goal and the expectation. With a flexible schedule that makes room for job and family responsibilities, a mix of in-person and remote learning, and ample one-on-one academic and personal coaching, Lowcountry Acceleration Academy urges each learner to #OwnYourSuccess.
Lowcountry Acceleration Academy understands that our Graduation Candidates have other responsibilities and face multiple challenges. Our academies have extended hours, Monday through Friday, so everyone is able to experience the unique and custom-designed learning environment offered. Our programs run year round with no extended summer breaks. At LAA our learning platform is web-based, Graduation Candidates can work on courses anywhere with internet access.
Working with our certified teachers known as Content Coaches, LAA Graduation Candidates develop a plan that aligns with their interests and emerging skill-sets. Graduation Candidates set personal, academic and career goals and Content Coaches work in tandem with Graduation Candidates to align their interests with career opportunities. Each Graduation Candidate also is able to create a portfolio of their work and build their resume before they graduate. Graduation Candidates have the chance to explore a variety of career pathways and have a chance to plan their academic and workforce training pathway with experienced Career Counselors. LAA Graduation Candidates are supported in every way, with access to highly qualified staff and paraprofessionals, as well as certified social workers and professional school counselors.
Supporting Graduation Candidates to realize their potential: LAA is about building relationships with our Graduation Candidates. LAA Graduation Candidates participate in career and college ready support programs and have their own mentor to guide them through their journey. With LAA, Graduation Candidates don't have to do it alone. Our relationships with Graduation Candidates are what foster a curiosity that extends outside the classroom doors and helps each Graduation Candidate build confidence in their next-step choices. LAA’s relationship with each Graduation Candidate does not stop at graduation.
Preparing for the future: At LAA, preparing Graduation Candidates for the workforce is embedded in the mission of our school. LAA pre-career skills building activities; self evaluation, career preparation, and post-secondary planning takes into account how Graduation Candidates will navigate college, professional training or costs incurred when paying for higher education.
