Lugoff-Elgin High School (LEHS) is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing World Class Instruction that focuses on a higher level of critical thinking and collaboration. We want our students to think beyond the basics of the course content and be able to communicate thoughts and solutions about complex problems using creativity and collaboration. Our 1:1 laptop program is instrumental in allowing our teachers to provide quality instruction that is appropriate for students at all levels, and it is a primary way for our students to be able to collaborate and communicate in ways that mimic the global workforce. Additionally, our teachers continually researching professional development opportunities to stay abreast of the latest instructional techniques. Teachers collaborate and plan for ways to teach across the curriculum, with an emphasis on infusing literacy across all subjects.
At Lugoff-Elgin High School, we not only believe that our instruction should be at its highest level, we think that the content should be rigorous and challenging for all students. We seek to assure that we provide students with the opportunity to take the most demanding courses of study in all areas. LEHS was accepted into the AP Capstone program, affording us the opportunity to provide students the ability to complete collegiate-level coursework through additional Advanced Placement offerings and dual enrollment agreements via a partnership with Central Carolina Technical College. We also understand the importance of learning the skills to participate in critical thinking and collaboration beyond our classroom. All of our course offerings are either college preparatory, intended to prepare our students to achieve certification in a field of study by taking courses at our partner school (WTC), or provides them with the necessary skills to prepare them workforce through the credential program.
Lugoff-Elgin High School also provides our students with the ability to participate and excel in a vast array of extracurricular activities. In the academic arena, our journalism program was awarded the Palmetto Award from the SC Scholastic Press Association for the third consecutive year.
