Battery Creek High School (BCHS) is helping all students develop world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate, by fostering an environment that develops strong academic knowledge and skills that increase their curiosity and engagement. At BCHS, students are empowered to realize their full potential for learning in preparation for application of knowledge in life, work, and study beyond their secondary school years. We engage students by providing a rigorous and relevant curriculum in an environment where differences are embraced and celebrated. We develop the learning profile of each student by offering a great variety of instructional programs and practices. Our vision is to engage and develop students and the community through a 21st century education. For example, our Career and Technology Center (CTE) has aided in cultivated a learning environment where students are engaged in meaningful educational experiences that have improved student achievement and is assisting in the development of creative lifelong learners.
With student achievement as our focus, teachers strive to accommodate the diverse needs of individual students by using data driven decisions and state curriculum standards to guide instruction. Teachers work diligently to create a student-center culture infused with technology through our one to one initiative. Student success is supported by supplemental computer programs and collaboration is encouraged through use of Google Drive and Classroom. Because of technology, we can offer our students an authentic learning experience that focuses on collaboration, experimentation, and reflection. Students and staff develop and monitor both individual and collective goals to intentionally make progress in designated academic and life areas.
We strive to meet the needs of all learners through advanced classes and whole-child intervention systems. The introduction of Cambridge International courses enables every student at BCHS to enroll in and complete advanced study starting in 9th and in all content areas. Response to Intervention (RtI) continues to support learners with team generated instructional and behavioral strategy options to meet student needs. Tutors are available during school for small group instruction. These programs, and others throughout the school year, have provided the framework for continued improvement, which has increased the opportunities for high credit bearing courses. As a result, students are prepared to enter college, the military, or the workforce.
Furthermore, our professional development, delivered primarily through the provision of the school administration in conjunction with the instructional coach in our school, creates a collaborative learning community where teachers are informed of best practices to improve student achievement.
In addition to effective academic programs, we offer a myriad of programs designed to foster student leadership and teamwork skills such as Leader in Me, Interact, National Honor Society, and student government as well as athletics and fine arts programs.
We have much to celebrate at BCHS, such as increased access to advanced courses, improving test scores, achieving Leader in Me Lighthouse distinction, facilities modernization project and sustained community involvement through a variety of community events. The 2021-22 school year has been challenging, however having our student body and staff back full time in the building has reinvigorated many opportunities through continued partnerships between our students, parents, community, and staff. We look forward to nurturing continuous improvement this year. We will continue to RISE to LEAD!
