Williston-Elko High School prides itself on developing scholars with the world-class skills and life and career characteristics presented in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Throughout this challenging year, our scholars have continued to strive for excellence. We have worked together as a school and a community to offer our scholars the supports necessary to achieve their goals. We achieve this by offering our scholars a wide range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities.
Staff development has been implemented to provide stronger foundations for our teachers in their respective areas of expertise. Two subject area specialists have helped our teachers reach higher levels of teaching in Engljsh and Math classrooms. Staff have provided opportunities to our scholars during after school tutoring and through our continued utilization of Devil Den Time. During Den Time, scholars are provided opportunities to use online resources to develop skills and readiness for many assessments. Programs have been used to prepare for the EOC, SAT, ACT, and career readiness/completer exams. Scholars can also use the time for tutoring and club meetings. Our scholars are offered a wide range of course offerings including CATE completer tracks through our school programs and the Barnwell County Career Center.
A partnership with Denmark Technical College allows our scholars to earn dual college credit in numerous courses. We also have an Early College Cohort with Denmark Technical College which allows our cohort members to work toward earning an Associate’s Degree before graduating high school. Three of our scholars in the inaugural cohort graduated this year with their degrees. Our scholars are also provided support through our community partnerships including: Back to School Bash, Career Day, BEC, Parent University Night, Voc Rehab, PolyBest, the Cumbee Center, SC Works, Walton Options, Axis 1, DIG, and SRS. Our scholars have also been very active in work-based learning opportunities at numerous local businesses.
Our scholars are encouraged to participate in activities that build pride and a giving spirit while providing a helping hand and leadership to others. Our Community Clothes Closet continues to serve members of our local community. Various clubs and organizations participated in community events (as appropriate and safe) and volunteered many hours of service at Kelly Edwards Elementary School. Our athletic programs enjoyed another successful year with most of our teams making it to post season play. Our band continues to perform at an excellent level and participates in many outside of school opportunities. Our band continues to achieve high ratings and has students qualifying for All-State and Honor Bands.
We would like to thank our community partnerships for their support in striving to give our scholars the necessary resources to be successful upon graduation.
