Round Top Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a rigorous and engaging academic learning environment characterized by: relationship building, critical thinking, collaboration, meaningful feedback, arts integration, and purposeful movement. As a Palmetto’s Finest, AVID Elementary, and Arts in the Basic Curriculum school, we believe that teaching these skills and providing opportunities for students to utilize them builds confidence and aids in the development of a “growth mindset” while working towards the school vision to: Empower. Lead. Succeed. During our 19th year of operation, students continued to excel in their personal pathways as they explored their talents and discovered their strengths:
-
One student became a published author.
-
One student won the National AAU Junior Olympics in the 9 year old 800M Event
-
Two students were selected as the overall winners in the Robotics Challenge for the 2022 SC 4-H Engineering Challenge
-
Six students (and four additional alternates) were selected to represent RTE and Richland 2 at the Tri-District Arts Consortium.
-
Forty RTE Alumni attended our 7th Annual Aviator Senior Walk, where our current Aviators celebrated the high school graduations of former RTE students.
We understand that rigorous learning environments for students is a result of rigorous learning opportunities for educators. To that end, RTE’s dedicated faculty and staff engage in on-going professional development in an effort to learn new evidence-based strategies that are proven effective for meeting the needs of all students. Professional learning for the year focused on reading comprehension strategies, recursive writing processes, mathematical problem solving, and use of AVID strategies to differentiate the learning process. Faculty and staff continued to excel in their professional pathways as they explored their professional interests:
-
One teacher completed the Richland 2 Leading Up learning cohort.
-
Two teachers facilitated an AVID Elementary Solution Snapshot virtual learning event for educators in the Southeast region.
-
Four faculty members completed the Collective Leadership Initiative “Designing Level” training with the SC State Department of Education.
-
Thirteen faculty members are part of the RTE Collective Leadership Initiative school team, providing a system for nurturing teacher leadership to impact school culture.
-
Thirteen faculty members have completed AVID Pathway Training (AVID Elementary K-2; AVID Elementary 3-6; Fostering an Equitable & Engaging Classroom; Transforming Literacy Through Content Area Reading; Leading Change for Educational Equity).
We believe that the success of our school lies not only in the achievement of its students, and the talent of its teachers, but also in the support of our families and community.
-
The School Improvement Council focused its efforts on supporting the school’s plan to promote improved school communication practices by creating the Aviator Family Resources Hub, which organized important information and resources regarding: Military Family Support, Diversity & Inclusion, Learning Support, School Counseling, and other RTE Resources.
-
The Parent Teacher Organization raised over $45,000 utilized to replenish classroom literacy materials, increase school wide literacy resources, fund teacher grants, and support future playground upgrades. Additionally, the PTO hosted Boosterthon, WingMen 5K, and Spring Fling events to build community and strengthen relationships among RTE stakeholders (teachers, students, parents, and community members).
We are proud of our long history of excellence in academics and the arts. As we continue our journey into our 20th year of operation, our goal is to work collaboratively among our stakeholders to create a lasting legacy of: Knowledge, Achievement, Growth Mindset, Integrity, and Service for generations of Aviators to come!
