Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing equitable and challenging learning experiences to grow and develop the whole child. Our magnet theme is captured in our school motto: STARS (Students Through the Arts Reach Success).
An emphasis on Life Skills and organization through AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies prepare students for success in an ever-changing, global world. Our mission for Conder students is BRIGHT, where students are B: Bold, R: Respectful and responsible, I: Intelligent, G: Gifted, H: Honest, T: Thoughtful team players. Our teachers collaborate to provide meaningful, challenging, and rigorous lessons that engage students to spark creativity and increase intellectual capacity. L. W. Conder is a place where rigorous instruction promotes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication.
In 2022 Conder received the Magnet School of America Distinction Award, and in 2021 was recognized as a Nationally Certified Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America. Additionally, Conder received the 2016 Magnet School of America Distinction Award, 2016 ASCD Whole Child Award, and the South Carolina Character Award. Our arts program is school-wide so every student has an opportunity to participate. We provide programs such as visual arts, dance, drums, music, and physical education. Conder has an outstanding Strings program for students in Kindergarten through fifth grades. Artists-in-Residence visit our school to work with our children frequently throughout the year. We provide a variety of opportunities with our Award-winning Star Gents boys mentoring program and A+ girls mentoring program. Conder continues to excel at being a Green Steps School in South Carolina. We established programs, such as Girls on the Run, Run Hard, Beta Club, Student Council, Steel Drum Band, Conder Super Star Strings, Dance Ensemble, and Morning Running Club. Conder has seen an increase in parent and community involvement with events such as the SMART Carnival, Movie Night, Arts concerts, Career Day, Mother/Daughter Tea, Author’s Tea, Math and Literacy Curriculum Night, and Kids Music Day. At Conder, parents embrace our shared vision and are encouraged to participate in their children's educational experience through classroom visits, volunteer opportunities, PTO, or SIC.
We are honored by the hard work of our students, teachers, and parents that ensure the success of our school.
