At Logan Elementary School, our vision is to equip our students with the necessary tools to develop world-class skills, along with life and career characteristics as taught or outlined by the Profile of the Graduate. To bring our vision to reality, we are providing an environment that combines research-based instruction, a comprehensive curriculum with emphasis on the infusion/integration of the arts, as well as character education. Our student's learning is enhanced by the use of one-to-one laptop devices, iPads, and virtual field trips. We work intensively to support our students in becoming independent learners, thinkers, and leaders.
We are a small, urban school offering both traditional and Montessori classes, of which, both provide rigorous academic standards for our students. In addition to offering two types of curriculum, we are also an Arts in the Basic Curriculum (ABC) and a Distinguished Arts Program site.
At Logan, our development efforts don’t stop with our students as we have also implemented professional development for the Logan staff. Our Logan staff participated in sessions with district-trained Math and ELA facilitators, school data analysis to guide instructional decisions, identifying the intent of SCCCR Standards, Arts integration, and vertically aligned Professional Learning Communities. Our teachers have also attended workshops through the S.C. Arts Commission, the ABC Project, and Richland One Montessori Services. The Fine Arts Program at Logan provided quality experiences in music, dance, drama, and visual arts through classes, ensembles, and other arts activities.
Our amazing Leopards have also taken their talents outside of the classroom by participating in community service projects through food drives, Logan’s annual Mitten & Sock Tree, recycling, Jump Rope for Heart, and participating in Pennies for Patients, a drive for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Students also provided leadership with WLGN News Daily Broadcast and Safety Patrol. Lastly, we can’t forget our dedicated parents, they’ve attended conferences, worked on Student Improvement Council (SIC), PTO, Logan Foundation, Parent Action Council and attended activities such as Family Literacy Night, Logan’s Art Night, and parent-teacher conferences.
As we all know, it takes a village and while we have the help of our parents, teachers, and staff, we also need our communities. Thanks to a partnership with Aflac, we received additional funds to support our SIC outdoor classroom project and provide professional development for our teachers in the area of student engagement. We also have continued a long-time partnership with our faith-based "Reading Matters" tutors. The PTO has sponsored family activities, book fairs, and fundraising. The SIC worked on the Annual Report, continued the discussion about landscaping Logan, improved the traffic flow of our car line, and supported the Richland One and Logan emphasis on reducing the "summer slide".
This has been or will be a remarkable year and we are grateful & extremely honored by the commitment of our students, parents, teachers, and members of our community.
