Indian Land Intermediate is helping all students develop World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by supporting our students in a hybrid model with both fifth and sixth grades. The intermediate school opened in 2021-2022 and completed its inaugural year. The teachers came together at the intermediate school from various schools across the district and outside districts. Our students follow a block
schedule in both fifth and sixth grade which fosters independence and fosters a bridge between elementary and middle school. At the intermediate level we offer an array of Encore classes including: Band, Chorus, Music, Art, PE, Journalism, STEM, STEAM and Computers. These classes allow students to explore their personal interests and develop their skill set outside of the academic environment. At the intermediate level we pride ourselves in allowing our students many opportunities to engage in small
group, hands-on learning activities. Students are engaged in rigorous lessons and are grouped based on their learning styles. The students here are provided with opportunities to learn outside of the classroom in our science lab and media center. The science lab is equipped with 21st century learning tools and incorporates higher level thinking tools and kits. The media center is an extension of the classroom. The media center coordinates activities throughout the school year to collaborate and extend their learning. We extend our academic learning through our counseling department. Our counselors work with our teachers, staff, and students to support our students’ needs within the classroom and within the building. The counselors support students through small groups, individual sessions, meeting with classroom teachers, and families to
ensure the students are successful in both their academics and emotional endeavors.
Indian Land Intermediate works closely with our PTO. The PTO supports the families and teachers in our school through initiatives such as Boosterthon Fundraiser, coordinating community events, volunteering within the school, and dine-out nights. The PTO works closely with the administration to plan events and initiatives throughout the school year to extend the learning experiences for all of our families and support teachers. For the 2024-2025 school year we are looking forward to continuing our school’s mission of, “Think Big, Dream Bigger”. We plan on doing this through the initiative of “Better Everyday”. We are going to challenge our teachers and students to “think big and dream bigger by being better every day”.
