The Greenwood Early Childhood & Montessori School, guided by the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, helps all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by emphasizing the importance of early childhood education to include creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration. These skills positively impact the lives of our students, parents, staff, and community.
Creativity is fostered on a daily basis in our classrooms through engaging academics. Teachers create learning tasks that are active, interactive, appropriately challenging, purposeful, and connected to students’ interests.
Communication skills are developed in many areas. Students learn the value of a positive learning community as they participate in Morning Meeting every day school-wide. Through these class meetings, teachers nurture a sense of belonging, significance, and emotional safety so that students feel comfortable taking risks and working with their peers. Differentiated learning and technology integration is utilized within each classroom and addresses the various learning styles of our students. Teachers, parents, and the community collaborate to enable students to achieve their maximum potential within a competitive culture in order to become self-directed 21st century learners and leaders.
Critical thinking and problem solving are built as teachers use knowledge of child development, along with observations of students, to create a developmentally appropriate learning environment for students. Students conduct research projects and use technology to solve real world problems. Students participate in service learning projects with the United Way, Salvation Army, Humane Society, and March of Dimes where they connect with the community by improving it, and making it a better place for all of us to live.
At the Greenwood Early Childhood & Montessori School, we believe the school, family, and community must share the educational responsibility of our students. We continue to strive each day to meet the needs of the whole child, academically, physically, and emotionally. Thank you for all of your support in developing our future South Carolina graduates and world leaders!
