Merrywood Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolian Graduate by inspiring, encouraging, and challenging every student. Our mission to “educate students through challenging learning opportunities and provide the life skills for responsible and caring citizenship” not only enhances our motto, “One for All and All for One,” but also helps us to address the competencies for the profile of a South Carolina Graduate.
Merrywood Elementary continues to be a proud Responsive Classroom school. With a strong emphasis on the social and emotional development of students. There is a natural correlation to helping students develop skills to navigate conflict and to lead teams of diverse individuals that are embedded daily throughout our school day that begin with our school wide Morning Meeting.
Student Readiness has been a major focus for our school. We have focused funds on reducing class size and providing quality resources to provide students with the skills necessary to close the achievement gap at an early age. We want our students to be able to engage with diverse sources of information to better enable them to read critically and reason quantitatively. Our new writing program has allowed students to express themselves, in written and oral form, for a variety of purposes and audiences. In addition to our resources for learning, all of our teachers have been provided with professional development in the area of ELA and Math instruction to help students think more critically and to continue to grow them into well rounded students.
Instructional technology has continued to be a school and district initiative with our 1 to 1 Chromebooks in grades K-5th. With the help of our district technology coaches, our teachers plan lessons in which students have opportunities to show their creativity and collaborate with their peers.
Merrywood Elementary School is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of all of our students. We believe the dedication and talents of our teachers, staff, parents, and community members will empower our students to be productive citizens and prepare them for the opportunities of the future.
