Our school is helping all students develop world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by offering our students a strong, multi-faceted inquiry-based program of instruction, which prepares our students to be contributing members to both our local community of Travelers Rest and the global community. Our goal at Heritage Elementary School is excellence for all students. We aspire to achieve this by offering a well-rounded curriculum. Students not only study the core academics of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies, but also Spanish, STEAM, PE, Music, and Art. Through this rich curriculum, students find ways to excel in areas that are unique to their abilities and interests. Students are also taught to reflect and assess their role as learners, through a variety of traits including Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, Risk-Takers, Knowledgeable, Principled, Caring, Open-Minded, Well-balanced, and Reflective. Our students also develop and practice attitudes such as Empathy, Tolerance, Integrity, Curiosity, Enthusiasm, Independence, Confidence, Appreciation, Commitment, Respect, Creativity, and Cooperation. By practicing these traits and attitudes, we prepare our students for college and career readiness, as well as lifelong success.
Each year our teachers learn best practices to help their students be successful. They utilize a variety of strategies including Fountas and Pinnell balanced literacy, small group guided reading, IXL reading and math, Mastery Connect, math stations, Reflex Math, science kits , inquiry-based units in science and social studies, reading intervention, weekly Spanish instruction, and inclusive practices. As a result of these practices, our students continue to grow academically.
Heritage Elementary School recognizes that our students grow and develop in a variety of ways. We are proud of developing practices that allow our students to shine in their areas of strength. Students at Heritage have the opportunity to participate in chorus, after school enrichment clubs such as FIRST Lego Robotics, Programming Club, Tae Kwon Do, Art, Running Club, and Pioneer Prep academic assistance. We have an active Student Council which has a rich history of service to the community. Our students raise money and items to support local charities.
