Chester Park Center of Literacy through Technology is helping all students develop the world class skills and life career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. Our School Mission is High Tech, High Expectations…Committed to Excellence for All Students. This mission is achieved through offering engaging, standards-based instruction and STEAM extracurricular activities. It is our goal for all students to reach their potential in every area of life as they develop into productive, contributing citizens through critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
Our Vision Statement- Enriching and Empowering all Learners to be Successful Citizens is the focal point of every decision we make for our school community. Through our work as a Professional Learning Community, we use common formative assessments to tailor our instruction to meet the needs of our students. This allows us to address learning gaps along with enriching and extending others. We provide all students small group guided reading instruction through our implementation of Fountas and Pinnell, Benchmark Assessments, and MAP Assessments. These differentiated reading groups enable students to move through levels as they strengthen their foundational literacy and comprehension skills. For the 2021-2022 school year, all teachers in Kindergarten – Third Grade, school administrators, literacy coach, speech therapist, and reading interventionist embarked upon Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) Training. LETRS is a professional development course that empowers educators to understand the science of reading.
The implementation of the Math Workshop approach has been very successful for us the past three years. Students work through real life scenarios in small groups using math tools and manipulatives to think through mathematical reasoning and problem solving. The collaborative groups provide the students with opportunities for metacognition and also hear other ways to problem solve as well. Technology continues to be a vital component of our instruction. Grades Kindergarten through five are all 1:1 with Lenova Thinkpads. All Pre-K students are 1:1 with tablets sponsored by Waterford. Grades three through five classrooms have class sets of Class Virtual Reality Headsets (groundbreaking technology) which are designed to help raise engagement and increase knowledge in all content areas. Our teachers are constantly improving their use of instructional technology usage which translates to our students’ use of technology. Our technology coach assist teachers in using technology for assessing student learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students.
We look for ways to have our families and the community involved in the school environment. Our SIC, PTO, and Parent Involvement Committee will continue to host our annual events such as the Cozy Winter Literacy Night, Mathematician's Mardi Gras Night, Technology Showcase, Family Literacy Picnics, Veterans Day Program, STEAM Performances, Muffins in the Mornings, Grits with Grandparents, Donuts with Grownups, Chester Community Cookout, etc.
We are looking forward to the 2022 - 2023 school year as we continue to move “Full STEAM Ahead” by working with our families and the community. We are continuing to enrich the whole child to be a successful global citizen.
