Charles Pinckney Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on the four Cs- critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Additionally, Charles Pinckney Elementary School is focused on improving literacy in order to meet the goal of all students reading on grade level.
It is the belief of Charles Pinckney Elementary that students require a variety of opportunities for learning to promote creativity and innovation. Students have participated in room transformations where the learning was centralized around a specific theme, such as Glow Room, Starbucks Poetry Cafe, and Immigration to Ellis Island. Student engagement and motivation for learning has increased due to our emphasis on creativity and innovation. We also develop in our students the skills of communication, information, media and technology.
Our staff integrates digital resources into teaching, learning, and operations to improve effectiveness and student performance. Students have become proficient in Google Suite, Zoom etiquette, and Flipgrid to extend learning outside of the classroom and with others around the world. SAIL students zoomed with NASA astronauts while they were at the space station, students participated in a Flipgrid event with Amanda Gorman, and students zoomed with a meteorologist to learn about weather.
Our schoolwide focus on literacy was improved through the piloting of the EL Literacy curriculum in several classes. Students learned to follow protocols while working collaboratively to analyze poetry and literature. The focus on best practices in the teaching of reading allowed for professional growth during PLCs. We are excited to continue this work with our entire staff during the coming school year.
Charles Pinckney Elementary School’s persistent pledge to excellence has and will continue to create students with World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and admirable Life and Career Characteristics.
