Hunt Meadows Elementary School strives for excellence in all areas. Expectations, standards, and instruction are grounded in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. From kindergarten and beyond, our students are developing world class knowledge, world class skills, as well as life and career characteristics. Focusing on this profile provides a variety of learning opportunities at every grade level. These opportunities take place during the school day, within after school clubs and during off-site field trip experiences. A group of our elementary aged students can master the skills of communication, information, media, and technology through the student led morning news show produced each day. Instruction was also enhanced this year as we continue to be a part of our district’s technology initiative. All students in grades third through fifth have iPad Airs that are used daily for instructional purposes. Our early childhood learners also have access to iPads on a daily basis.
This year, we have worked extremely hard to create strong teams in literacy, leadership, and response to intervention. These teams work tirelessly to ensure student success and academic achievement. Our focus has been on creating a school where student learning is a top priority. We have provided intervention opportunities before school, after school, and during the school day. Analyzing MAP data, state testing data, and Fountas and Pinnell levels has allowed us to tailor our instruction to meet the individual needs of students. Hosting data meetings each nine weeks with teachers has provided meaningful insight to their planning and instruction.
This year, we also completed year three of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program at Hunt Meadows Elementary. We are a part of a three year pilot with Clemson University. A team of teachers and administrators were trained on the OBP program and led training at the school level. Students participate in weekly OBP meetings facilitated by their teachers. These meetings cover a variety of topics each week. During these meetings, students were allowed to share openly any concerns, ask questions, and personal experiences. Each adult in the building attended a meeting within the school. Our Olweus Bullying Prevention School Rules:
SHINE BRIGHTER with NO BULLIES!
-
We will not bully others.
-
We will try to help students who are bullied.
-
We will try to include students who are left out.
-
If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and at home.
Thankfully, our Parent Teacher Organization and our School Improvement Council continue to play a vital role in creating meaningful opportunities for students. We hold all students to a high standard in the areas of academics, character education, physical education, and service learning.
We attribute a lot of our school-wide success to our ongoing PBIS model. Having Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports in place provides a productive culture of learning. Our counselor, along with teachers and administration, provides instruction that strengthens students’ integrity, self-direction, and interpersonal skills. This is one more way we ensure that our students are gaining all skills and characteristics that are a part of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. There are many positive events and activities taking place at Hunt Meadows Elementary that would not be possible without our dedicated teachers, staff, volunteers, and mentors. They give generously of their time and talents to improve school culture and promote success.
