Millbrook Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on learning and innovation skills. Intentional planning and processes are in place to provide opportunities for students to apply critical thinking and problem solving skills, communicate with others while pursuing student global ambassadors, learn through collaboration with other students, staff and community members, and practice creativity and innovation skills.
Students at Millbrook Elementary are given the opportunity to take ownership of their learning through reasoning, making judgements and decisions, solving problems as well as learning how systems work together. These skills allow the students to apply learned material to new concepts while expanding their knowledge base.
Efforts are made to ensure that students are given the opportunity to communicate with others as they learn to speak and listen to others in diverse situations using all forms of communication. The school has established a school-wide expectation plan that focuses on being respectful to others and having a shared responsibility in building a great learning environment.
Millbrook Elementary strives to provide opportunities for students to experiment, listen to others ideas with an open mind, communicate with each other as they evaluate their hypothesis, and then adjust their thinking based on the learning that has occurred. Students are celebrated for taking risks with their learning and encouraged to look at failures as an opportunity to grow and learn.
Millbrook Elementary provides excellent academic programs that are data driven to identify our students’ needs. The school focuses on academics as well as relationship building in our school so that students can take on learning with confidence. Strong academics, communication and collaboration, and the ability to think critically and be creative ensures that our students will be well prepared to transition into middle school.
