Redcliffe Elementary School, in partnership with students, parents, and community members, is dedicated to building a strong foundation while developing responsible citizens to function and successfully contribute to others in today’s society. This statement guides us as we strive to develop the world-class skills of the Profile of the SC Graduate. Redcliffe Elementary School is a Title 1 School that serves 660 students.
Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Redcliffe Elementary school is helping all students develop these skills by rigorously focusing on literacy instruction. Our literacy coach provides guidance and best practice strategies needed to implement the Reading and Writing Workshop. Teachers use progress monitoring and formative assessment to ensure that all students attain the literacy skills needed for academic success. Reading interventions such as Read 180 and System 44 are used to provide additional support for struggling students.
Standards-based instruction is used in all content areas. For mathematics, teachers provide large and small group instruction as well as hands-on learning. Our students also attend the math lab weekly for supplemental instruction. Additionally, Robotics club provides hands-on, interactive, problem-based learning opportunities for our students in science. Math intervention is used to provide additional support for struggling students.
Utilizing positive behavior interventions guides our students in developing life and career characteristics. Through our PAWS matrix (Prepared, Act Responsibly, Work as a Team, and Show Respect), students are taught clear behavior expectations and are rewarded for making good choices. Our school counselor provides lessons in character development as well as small group and individual interventions. Students also develop world-class skills through related arts classes as well as a variety of other opportunities. These opportunities include clubs such as student council, running club, safety patrol, Robotics, and Battle of the Books where students build teamwork skills.
Our community also assists with character development through the Good News Club, which emphasizes integrity, honesty, and kindness. Our collaboration with our parents through our PTO and SIC join us in providing family events which strengthen the critical partnership between the school, home and community. All of these strategies allow us to achieve our vision and support the development of the profile of the SC Graduate.
