Our mission, in Spartanburg School District Three, is to be student-focused through positive relationships while teaching world-class skills and values. We provide rigorous, engaging, innovative, and meaningful learning environments. We also intentionally create cognitive, emotional, and social development among our students. Whether in academics, athletics, fine arts, or community service, our students, teachers, administrators, Board of Trustees, and our community work together to create a unified culture of excellence. With our students at the center of all that we do, we have embraced our guiding principle of “All In. Every Child, Every Day, Whatever It Takes!”
District Three’s School Board has demonstrated a commitment to providing all students with a high-quality educational experience. Our district employs highly qualified teachers and staff, led by dedicated building and district administrators. Because student safety is our top priority, a school nurse and school resource officer are located at each school campus.
Personalized learning is offered through ‘one-to-one’ technology. This means every student has a device to complete schoolwork. Additionally, our partnership with Daniel Morgan Technology Center provides our students with the opportunity to acquire career and technical knowledge. With over 223 course completers and more than 470 students who earned Industry Certifications this past year, our students are excelling in our CATE programs. Our students are also given the opportunity to participate in work-study to further their knowledge within a work setting.
Our high school, Gettys D. Broome High School, was the first in the county to implement Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) strategies to add rigor and relevance to our students’ work. Our middle school's AVID program has also found great success by advancing our student’s academic achievement. Students are given multiple extracurricular activities to participate in beyond the classroom. From athletics to musical talents and clubs, 75 percent of our students excel in one or more of these areas, which in turn helps students excel in academics. Our high school seniors earned more than $4.7 million in college scholarships this year.
These accomplishments are possible, in part, due to the strong educational foundations built at our elementary and middle schools. Each elementary school is equipped with a Literacy Coach, Reading Interventionist, and Math Interventionist who work closely with students to address achievement gaps. Our middle school has an Instructional Coach and Math Interventionist on campus throughout the week. Data analysis is used by our teachers to develop learning paths for each student’s success.
Our Board of Trustees, administration, and school staff are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to the students in Spartanburg School District Three and their continued support for high-quality education and the safety of our students.
