Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School, Home of The Mighty Tigers! – 2020/21
Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of The Profile of The South Carolina Graduate by embracing a renewed commitment to supporting the learning and progress of all students. Continuing to be a leader in student empowerment, Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School is helping all students develop world class, life skills, and career characteristics of The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School incorporates deep, impactful levels of implementation for character development and leadership skills. Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School is allocating more time for instruction. Our school provides such an academic environment for success by progress monitoring and individual academic growth through the multi-tiered systems of support, or MTSS. The evidence of increased instructional time, reduced behavioral incidences, and targeted academic accountability is clearly designated as a rating of “Good” on The South Carolina State Report Card, 100% Passage Rate for 8th grade students who took Algebra I and/or English I in 2019 and 2020, and the incorporation of research-based tiered interventions such as Fountas & Pinnell and AIMSweb. This level of academic growth and success is due to the efforts of our teachers, students, parents, and external stakeholders. Teachers continuously strive to stay abreast of current trends and best practices through attending professional development sessions and workshops. By utilizing the current trends, engaging in best practices, and having high expectations, students are challenged to reach their full academic potential.
Our teachers are constantly seeking ways to improve professionally by closing the learning gaps for all students. Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle has incorporated an effective mode for technological exchange and learning called Canvas. Rigorous computer based programs, such as MasteryConnect’s TE 21 and ALEKS help address academic challenges. Through the use of these instructional programs and strategies, many students demonstrated individual growth by reaching their targeted growth goals.
Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School continues to offer various programs outside of the classroom environment to help students evolve into well-rounded individuals. The Jr. Beta Club, The Ladies Club, and The Gentlemen’s Club all provide students the opportunities to participate in various service projects, to act as student ambassadors, and to serve as mentors. Students at Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School also participate in beginner band, strings classes, poetry, art contests, and exceed requirements in developing new apps for The Junior Beta Club and Project Lead The Way.
Students, in grades 7 and 8, enjoy the athletic opportunities of organized sports. By offering coed sports and intramural tourney, all students receive the invitation to experience the physical activity and comradery associated with competition. Due to the onset of The Coronavirus Pandemic, many sports seasons were interrupted; however, students, coaches, parents, and the faculty and staff welcome the return of a full, rigorous, athletic schedule
Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School prides itself in the responsibility of involving all stakeholders and community members as active partners in the role of education for our young people. Thanks to the continued support from Business Partners such as Anderson Brothers Bank, Tiger Mart #7, and Food Lion #0389, efforts are ongoing to help mold our students as they transition to high school, graduation, productive citizenry, and future leaders of the community, state, and nation.
