Kingstree Middle Magnet School of the Arts (KMMSA) is a diverse 6th through 8th-grade middle school that serves the community by providing an academic curriculum and extracurricular activities for nearly 500 students. Kingstree Middle Magnet School of the Arts is helping all students develop the world class skills and life career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, nurturing and academically engaging learning environment. We provide a positive school climate focusing on our school’s mission: “Setting the Course for Success, One Leader at a Time.” Our school’s mission is supported through goals for high student performance and continuous professional development for teachers in order to meet the academic and social needs of the students. We are committed to addressing the academic needs of the students along with their social, emotional, and physical needs.
Our students, parents, teachers, and administration faced unprecedented challenges this school year as we embraced a “new normal,” developed, and implemented innovative methods for providing effective instruction in the face of the COVID-19 global pandemic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, KMMSA was able to continue to provide quality instruction through online platforms thanks to the 1:1 technology plan implemented by the Williamsburg County School District. The administration, faculty, and staff of KMMSA remain committed to working with our stakeholders to accomplish our mission of providing a positive culture and producing successful citizens, especially during the unprecedented challenges of the 2020-21 school year and the future!
The use of Mastery Connect has allowed teachers to efficiently use the data to enhance educational opportunities in the classroom. As we continue to meet the challenges of improving student achievement, teachers and administrators recognize the need to emphasize student engagement, academic rigor, and high expectations. In addition to SCPASS and SCREADY data, the analysis of MAP and common assessment data has helped to strengthen and improve instruction. Data analysis has particularly allowed us to focus on offering our students enrichment and intervention assistance classes during and after school. Our school’s MTSS plan meets the academic and social needs of all students through a multi-tiered approach utilizing AIMSweb, Vocabulary for Success, reading and math interventionist, ALEKS, and Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy,
Kingstree Middle School’s school-wide emphasis for the 2021-2022 school year will be to continue to ensure our students have a safe learning environment. We will focus on the work and life skills, the 4 C’s (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) and offer as many personalized learning opportunities as possible to meet the characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Faculty and staff will be involved in extensive staff development as we continue our mission to develop the whole child. We continually strive to be academically, socially equitable, and developmentally responsive so that all of our students learn in a safe and student-centered environment. We continue to acknowledge that, while we as a faculty and staff are all working diligently at Kingstree Middle to ensure every child reaches her/his potential and has a quality education, we need and welcome the help of parents and the community. We will continue to analyze our assessment data for the purpose of improving our practices and to ensure that our students receive the best educational opportunities possible.
