Students, parents, teachers, staff, administration and our School Improvement Council are dedicated to providing the positive opportunities for students in pursuit of the world class skills and career characteristics described in the Profile of the SC Graduate. This school year brought about many important efforts and challenges in working toward solving the needs of all students. As we transitioned from e-Learning to hybrid to full five days of face-to-face instruction, we continued to provide opportunities for a wide range of learners. It was a focus to offer effective teaching and learning that met the needs of all Northside Middle School students.
Northside Middle School had many items to celebrate during the 2020-2021 school year. Four of our 8th grade students were named Junior Scholars. Our arts programs continue to shine with opportunities in band, chorus, orchestra, art and graphic arts. We implemented a school wide club initiative that involves all students and teachers and focuses on the whole child. Northside Middle offered over 30 active clubs to include Special Olympics, Disney, Film Studies, Yoga, Soccer and Photography.
Teaching and learning to meet the needs of our students was and will continue to be evident daily at Northside Middle. We offer a rigorous curriculum with multiple tracks to provide students with every opportunity to learn. As a district that uses Google Suite technology, Northside students regularly interacted with Google Classroom as part of a blended learning model. All students were provided intervention and enrichment time on a daily basis that was personalized to meet individual needs. Technology continues to be a major push as we prepare our students for the ever changing future.
Reflection is rapidly becoming an important part of our academic plan moving forward in these new times. Teachers encouraged student reflection as part of classroom instruction to deepen understanding of content. In our pursuit of developing young people who epitomize the Profile of the SC Graduate, our end goal is to improve our student achievement by undertaking new and innovative ways for the twenty-first century student to experience learning. Our motto is to Be Positive, Be Kind, and Be YOU at Northside Middle School, and we model that on a daily basis.
