Andrew Jackson Middle School is helping all students develop World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing opportunities of teaching and learning together in, with, and through the Arts. Our signature programs in the Arts, such as chorus, dance, strings, theater, and visual arts, reach many students and give the community and school a point of common interest. We have six teachers participating in the District’s STEAM initiative with Discovery Education and continue to challenge our students academically by implementing STEAM activities in units of study. These teacher leaders participate in professional development and lead the faculty in learning innovative ways to engage students in their own learning. They have used their classrooms as learning lab sites to model instructional strategies and best practices for the teachers to learn from and take back to their students. The guidance department here at AJMS, provides career exploration and events such as job shadowing opportunities, tours of our high school and the district's career center, classroom guidance lessons, and Individual Graduation Planning conferences. We have technology integrated across the curriculum and students are using their assigned chromebooks daily to work independently and collaboratively. We value partnerships and stakeholders who are invested in the success of our students as we strive to help our students become college and career ready. As we continue to work together, we find successes in our efforts to create lifelong learners and prepare our students for the rigors of high school.
