Manning Junior High School is helping all students develop the world-class skills, as well as life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically stimulating environment where children recognize and achieve excellence, so they can make positive contributions to society. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school’s mission and vision “Educating Children: One Team, One Dream.” Our vision, “One Team, One Dream” is a springboard to a brighter future for our students. Our students are challenged with best practices to help them reach their fullest potential through the continuous professional development of our teachers.
It is Manning Junior High School’s expectation to be the best school in South Carolina. The School Improvement Council continues to take an active and positive role in supporting this concept.
During the 2020-2021 school year, at Manning Junior High School, we have continued some of the same initiatives that have proven to be successful. We have students meeting expectations for the Honor Roll and/or the National Jr. Beta Club. The Original Six Foundation After-School Program is in its 5th year and is a program where students work hard to improve their classroom learning through the completion of homework assignments and tutoring. The students also participate in an Advisory Period each day where they work on various skills, such as goal setting and test-taking strategies. Students at MJHS had other opportunities to enrich their learning during after-school hours due to Teacher Office hours. Each teacher provided at least one hour of academic assistance on a weekly basis. During this time, students received extra help, tutoring, or make-up assignments.
The MJHS FFA chapter for 2020-2021 competed in the Conduct of Chapter Leadership Development event and won state level, resulting in a $2,000 stipend. The organization partners with the high school chapter to increase agriculture and leadership knowledge.
With our partnership with Discovery Education, we provided a simple to use STEM learning platform that combines dynamic curated curriculum resources with on-demand teaching strategies, personalized to fit the needs of all teachers and students. This program content brings excitement and relevancy to topics taught so that all students have opportunities to unlock their true potential.
Lastly, the 7th-grade students at MJHS continue to take full advantage of Learning.com, an initiative that provides digital curriculum and assessments, integrating technology and content into everyday instruction. In addition, Fundamentals of Computing (a high school credit course) was offered to our 8th-grade students this year.
All of these wonderful learning opportunities would not be possible without YOU being a part of Manning Junior High School.
