Simmons-Pinckney Middle School is committed to doing our part in helping our scholars develop the necessary world-class skills, life, and career characteristics as detailed in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Specifically, our schoolwide implementation of AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a critical component in developing our scholars’ ability to think critically and collaboratively. In addition, we believe that the academic skills needed of our scholars must be delivered in a safe environment, affirming positive behaviors and cognizance of our scholars’ social and emotional needs.
In a society that requires individuals to bring their talents together and work for the benefit of a larger community, we help our scholars develop their ability to collaborate effectively and believe in recognizing academic growth and appropriate behaviors through our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative. All faculty, staff, and administrators know the vital importance of building and nurturing positive relationships. We aim to maintain these relationships and help our scholars develop strong interpersonal skills critical to being productive members of society.
Our school community has appreciated the support of community resources, such as neighborhood learning hubs and after-school community programming, to help mitigate and minimize the impact on learning that COVID-19 has presented. The inclusion of an internal pod in our school building was also created to meet the needs of families who were still highly concerned about COVID-19 issues and understood the need for their scholars to receive in-person instruction. The school also adjusted our schedule to embed small group assistance for in-person scholars and office hours for temporary remote learners.
We are committed to doing our part to see each scholar prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities that life will bring. We are excited to share this journey with our scholars and families. We are appreciative of the support that our community provides for this generation of scholars.
