Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing them opportunities to fulfill our district motto of Learning, Serving, and Leading.
At Ware Shoals High School, students are learning. In addition to the traditional setting for classes, our students have the opportunity to earn credit, which otherwise may be unattainable, through the Learning Academy. Currently we have 71 students earning credit in 142 courses through the Apex online learning system. Providing nontraditional learning opportunities develops the world class skill of knowing how to learn.
At Ware Shoals High School, students are serving. We have a very active Student Council, and their annual service project is Christmas is for Kids. Last year, despite a greater need and fewer resources, our students and community stepped up! Student Council was able to raise over $22,000, providing Christmas gifts for 131 students in our district. Squad 51 is another group of students who serve in our school and community. Squad 51 implements their emergency preparedness training to keep our school safe should an emergency arise. Providing service learning opportunities develops the world class skills of communication, collaboration, teamwork, and creativity and innovation.
At Ware Shoals High School, students are leading. Twenty-six WSH scholars were accepted into dual credit program at Lander University (16 students) and Piedmont Tech (10 students). Two students are participating in a Hospitality and Tourism Youth Apprenticeship (Culinary Arts) at Self Regional Hospital and one is completing an apprenticeship at Lonza in Greenwood. We have 1 in the PTC Mechatronics PTC Dual Enrollment program and 6 in the Health Care Quickstart PTC Dual Enrollment program. We strive to provide any and every opportunity we can through our partnerships with local colleges, businesses, and the G. Frank Russell Technology Center. Providing leadership opportunities develops the world class skills of critical thinking and problem solving, communication, and knowing how to learn.
The faculty and staff at Ware Shoals High School are dedicated to providing opportunities for students to learn, serve, and lead in order to reach their Destination…Graduation.
