Colleton County High School (CCHS) and Thunderbolt Career and Technology Center (TCTC) are helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by continuing to provide educational equity to all learners of our community with an emphasis on making learning experiences relevant to meeting the needs of a global workforce. The students have been able to put their standards based skills they have learned to work through our academic Schools of Study. Through our five schools of study, we have been able to provide ample opportunities for students to apply their learning through real life application. Teachers of each school collaborate to develop instruction through problem and project based learning that speaks to the diverse career interests of our students. Whether students are interested in Law and Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Technical Vocations, or Health Careers, Colleton County High School has offered a pathway to enhance the college and career potential of all students. During the 2020-2021 school year, CCHS and TCTC were able to offer students the opportunity to go fully 1:1. This allowed students to choose which model (whether virtual or hybrid/in-person) was right for them.
Simultaneously, the faculty and staff of CCHS and TCTC have participated in numerous professional learning offerings both during our embedded Professional Learning Communities as well as opportunities off site. During all of our professional learning, collaboration is at the center of our work. We have found that there is strength in meeting the needs of all of our students when there is strong and purposeful collaboration between faculty and staff members. The professional learning has included designing common assessments, integrating career connections in the learning units, and benchmarking the academic progress of our learners. CCHS and TCTC are MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Schools. CCHS and TCTC are also training to become Trauma-Informed, Resilient Schools.
We are proud of the many accomplishments of our students as well. During the 2020-2021 school year despite the restrictions of the COVID epidemic, the CTE programs at CCHS and TCTC had significant success in preparing our students to become both college and career ready. In the graduating Class Of 2021, 152 students were CTE completers, of which 19 were double CTE completers and 12 were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. There were 83 graduates in the Class of 2021 that received at least one national certification in their career pathway, and schoolwide 350 CTE students received their OSHA-10 national certification. Athletically our students excelled as well. Our Softball team continued its tradition-rich success by playing in the lower state finals. Our Fine Arts students participated in multiple community events.
We are proud of the accomplishments of our school community and look forward to achieving greater outcomes in the years to come and for our students to be proficient in all aspects of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
