Scott’s Branch High School Narrative
Scott’s Branch High School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by implementing a rigorous academic curriculum that is infuded with the Arts, to include Dance, Theater, Art, and Concert and Marching Band. Though impacted by the pandemic our students have demonstrated resilience and have worked hard to achieve many successes.
With great pride, we highlight some of the many accomplishments of our students: With a graduating class of 40 seniors, 19 are eligible Life Scholarship recipients, 36 received high school diplomas and two received occupational diplomas. The senior class received $2.2 million dollars in Scholarships and Grants, 43% of seniors plan to attend a four-year college, 15% of seniors plan to attend a two-year college, 1 senior plan to join the military; 18 National Honor Society Inductees; and our Boys Basketball Team was Region Champions and State Runner-Up, We finished third in the region in volleyball and second in the region in Track, with two athletes getting to the state finals.
To develop world class competencies in teamwork, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation, we emphasize the importance of using project/problem-based learning activities and ensure that time is allotted for students to demonstrate these skills during instruction. Furthermore, academic challenge competitions, honors courses, and the arts are also used to help develop students into productive citizens having the skills necessary to be successful in an ever-changing world. To meet the needs of our academically diverse population, some of our students enroll in college courses with the possibility of obtaining an associate degree. Others opt for the CATE program which provides a viable pathway to a meaningful career and livelihood. Two of our seniors received SC licenses in Cosmetology. Students are given quarterly benchmark assessments to monitor their academic progress. The data is analyzed by the instructional team and used to drive the instructional activities and intervention strategies. One intervention is the Eagle Power Period where all students are actively engaged in test-taking strategies, During this time, academic standards are reviewed in preparation for state assessments (WIN, ACT, SAT, EOC). College prep for seniors is also done during this time.
Scott’s Branch High School continues to set high standards of excellence. We embrace the challenge of constantly evolving and growing as professionals in the ever-changing field of education. Our goal is to continue to provide the best, well-rounded educational opportunities for all our students.
