Northside Elementary School of the Arts is helping all students develop the world class, life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by being an academic and arts community that inspires creativity, courage and character. Our school is a safe, challenging, caring, and supportive environment where teachers, parents, students and community members work together to ensure all students have a solid foundation for life. We strive to provide an inspiring, creative and artistically enriched learning environment where high achievement is the norm, so that all of our students achieve a lifetime of success.
Northside Elementary School of the Arts is a Title I school within the downtown region of Rock Hill, SC. The school is one of the oldest, both historically and physically, within the Rock Hill School District. Northside Elementary School of the Arts is a school of choice for the school district. Northside offers the only comprehensive visual and performing arts program at the elementary school level in all of York County. This program consists of the core classroom as well as drama, dance, visual arts, music and physical education on a weekly basis. Approximately one third of the students attending Northside are school of choice students. Northside Elementary School of the Arts has been the recipient of over $410,000 worth of grant money to support the arts integration program at the school during the past 18 years. The school is both an Arts in the Basic Curriculum (ABC) grant recipient and school as well a Distinguished Arts Program (DAP) grant recipient and school. Through these grants our staff receives on site professional development on integrating arts in the core curriculum. The arts team has the opportunity to attend conferences in their area of specialty. Artists in residence work with several grade levels. Students are able to attend performances and field studies, and artists are able to perform for students at our school.
Northside continues to provide many opportunities to help out students be successful and well-rounded. Students have an array of activities in which to participate, including: Recycling Club, Safety Patrol, Vocabulary Bowl, Beta Club and Student Council. Parent involvement and community connections continue to improve through planned PTA and school events including: PBIS School Programs, Student Mentor Program, Meet the Teacher Night, Title I Night, Awards Days, Terrific Kid Awards, Artists in Residence Program, Arts Integration Showcase Programs, Parent Conferences (94% attendance rate), 5th Grade & K5 Reading Buddies, Reading and Math Night, Coffee with Administration & Staff, Lunch Buddies Mentor Program with Northside Baptist Church, Lunch & Learn, classroom volunteer opportunities and field studies.
