The 2020-2021 school year required many adjustments due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. While Old Pointe Elementary continues to strive to help all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, our students experienced many changes throughout the year as we navigated through the health and safety requirements provided. The Old Pointe staff continues our work of creating an environment that is conducive to high level acquisition of knowledge where our students are challenged to learn and grow each day.
The delivery of instruction was conducted through a variety of manners which included virtual, remote, and face-to-face. Students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth were issued HP devices to support their learning. These devices allowed our students to participate in blended learning activities that promoted student engagement. As a school, we continue to pursue on-going growth and improvement, while remaining committed to the development of our professional capacity and family centered climate that have always defined Old Pointe Elementary.
Committed to educating the whole child, our staff participated in professional development geared toward fostering resiliency in our students. Our staff continues to focus on the whole child through the implementation of our Panther P.R.I.D.E. PBIS initiative. Old Pointe’s unique version of this system is an acronym for the five school-wide expectations: Positive attitude, Responsibility, Initiative, Determination, and Excellence. Throughout the school year, students were recognized for displaying the P.R.I.D.E characteristics.
Our Professional Learning Communities enabled our teachers to raise the level of rigor, build common assessments, disaggregate data, and plan instruction based on our state standards and individual student needs. We believed that in order to improve student learning we must engage in continuous and targeted professional development as we continue to make student achievement our top priority.
As we move forward, the Old Pointe school community will continue to focus on the whole child by providing each learner with the unique instruction, resources, and support that is needed to help each reach their full potential. We are proud of the many achievements throughout the 2020-2021 school year and look forward to even greater success next year in helping each of our students reach their full potential.
