At Cayce Elementary School, our goal is to create strong, positive relationships with our 1,000-plus students. We are helping students develop the World Class Skills and the Life and Career Characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by not only providing a safe, nurturing, and academically challenging learning environment but by utilizing collaborative learning, parental involvement, and high-quality instruction to create a customized learning experience to meet the needs of each student. Through rigorous and culturally relevant instruction as well as data-driven decision-making, our teachers are committed to providing students with the tools necessary to succeed in the 21st century.
Cayce Elementary is a Leader in Me School, a program rooted in Dr. Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People that help students develop skills to help them succeed through all stages of life. Our staff participated in professional development for the program in the inaugural 2018-19 school year. During the 2019-20 school year, students, faculty, and staff worked collaboratively to grow the Leader in Me program, and in the 2020-21 school year, students, faculty, and staff rooted the ideals of Leader in Me in our daily lexicon and activities. This program helped build stronger positive relationships between students and adults in the building. It also allowed students to take leadership roles and greater ownership of their education. As we look to the 2021-22 school year, students will continue to set Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) to have even more active roles in their education pathways that will include progress updates with their teachers and families.
At Cayce, we know the importance of educating the whole child in developing World Class Skills. In addition to offering opportunities for social-emotional lessons, we also promote healthy minds and bodies with a co-ed Run Hard team each semester. Partnerships with the United Way of the Midlands Reading Consortium, Cayce United Methodist Church, Holland Avenue Baptist Church, House of Raeford, Trinity Baptist Church, Golden State Foods, and Woodmen of the World provide much-needed food, supplies, and mentoring for our students. The Cayce community has been supportive of helping the school gather resources to support our families beyond direct academic needs. We will continue to build a supportive school culture to not only support student learning but to grow engaged citizens for the future.
The Cayce Elementary community is excited about the work ahead. We are committed to making innovative learning opportunities a reality, supporting teachers to empower all students to reach their potential as a South Carolina Graduate with World Class Knowledge, Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics.
