Carolina Springs Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating positive relationships, and providing engaging classroom learning experiences where students are able to think critically and solve problems collaboratively and creatively. As a Responsive Classroom school, CSES has placed an emphasis on providing students with the opportunity to have daily social emotional learning activities where communication is fundamental.
The 2020-2021 school year brought unprecedented challenges to students, parents and teachers and because of the effort of each of those stakeholders our school community was able to find success. The pandemic gave our faculty and staff the opportunity to learn new skills and take more educational risks to meet the needs of ALL of our learners. Our students were resilient in their quest for knowledge as they overcame the challenges of being face to face, virtual and hybrid learners all in one year. Our teachers were equally as resilient as they had to reinvent what teaching looked like with their learners in multiple modes of instruction.
The staff and students at CSES this year suffered a tragedy in losing one of our own teachers to the COVID19 virus. This devastating loss to our school community provided us with an opportunity to deepen the relationships between staff members and strengthen the family bonds that have been an essential part of Carolina Springs.
Even though the regulations with the pandemic excluded CSES from allowing parents or volunteers into the school building the CSES PTO established a new record for fundraising from the Boosterthon program. CSES students did an incredible job raising funds for the school and had a magical time during the Boosterthon week and Dance Fit.
We are encouraged by the progress students made in a challenging, but rewarding school and look forward to the place we will go in 2021-2022.
