Indian Land Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by supporting staff development through the input of our faculty and the assessment of needs of our students. Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity are the focus of professional development and classroom instruction. Leadership teams are in place to ensure that students are provided a rigorous education that incorporates these facets of STEAM and the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Technology is also incorporated into learning and enhances the curriculum at every grade level. Student engagement, as evidenced by peer communication and social and digital collaboration, is at the heart of instructional planning.
Students are active participants in their own learning, and they gained real-world experiences and knowledge from various projects and activities. Student achievement as measured by NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress rose from 64.0% meeting or exceeding grade level norms in Math in the fall to 74.3% by the spring. Similarly in Reading, the percentage of students meeting or exceeding grade level norms increased from 70.3% in the fall to 75.5% in the spring. Within the school, ILE has a literacy and a math/technology coach who plan with teachers for the purpose of growing students and enhancing instruction; teachers meet weekly with coaches and implement strategies and technology to meet the needs of all students.
The PTO and SIC are active at ILE; they support the social and academic needs of our students. School counselors lead programs, teach lessons in classrooms, prepare students for success in academics and the real-world, and develop career and occupational explorations. Local churches, businesses, and various organizations support ILE by donating school supplies, hosting dine-out nights, and providing for our students. The community stakeholders are strong collaborative partners with the school. Providing afterschool programs that focus on academics, social development, physical activity, and collaboration, ILE hosts FIT Kids, Let Me Run, and Girls on the Run. Indian Land Elementary is also a community partner with the local recreation center and with both Boy and Girl Scouts troops.
Indian Land Elementary continues to strive for academic excellence in all areas. Working with our community, inspiring our students, encouraging and providing for our teachers, the school is determined to ensure that all students have the best opportunity for a high quality education. It is the belief of ILE that every student can and should be proud to call themselves a Warrior: “Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior.”
