Camden Elementary School is committed to helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate by promoting critical thinking skills, communication, collaboration and creativity. We do this by providing students with challenging opportunities through technology and the creative arts in a safe and nurturing environment.
This year our school participated in the personalized learning launch initiative provided by the SC State Department of Education. We targeted specific skills using the Edmentum software products. All students participated in a schoolwide trophy challenge and tracked their growth in the classroom and in other areas in the school. In August, only 50% of our students returned face-to-face. The Exact Path Trophy Challenge was instrumental in maintaining continuity with our virtual and face-to-face population during the school year. Our students who consistently used Exact Path met and sometimes exceeded their growth projections on the winter and spring MAP assessments.
We were assigned an MTSS (Multi-Tiered Support Systems) coach this year. Our MTSS coach met with grade-level teams bi-weekly to disaggregate MAP and Dibels data. RTI stored was the system used to assist with the data analysis process. Teachers were given strategies to implement in their classrooms to assist with Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction. We specifically utilized our enrichment block of time to provide additional support for our Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.
Title One funds were also allocated to provide math and reading intervention. Interventionists worked with students during their enrichment blocks by either pulling students out into a small group setting or by pushing into the classroom to assist with facilitating small group instruction.
Collaboration is the key to success. Our theme this year was WE ARE...CES! We demonstrated that we were a team this year, even though we were faced with many challenges due to the COVID 19 pandemic. One of our goals was to provide as many normal school routines as possible. We were able to work with our parent groups, and our CES family raised over $20,000 in our very first read-a-thon. Funds were used to purchase playground shade and outdoor picnic tables. Our goal is to provide more outdoor learning opportunities for our students.
Our CES COLTS also continued with our One Book/One School journey and everyone read Cleo Edison Oliver - Playground Millionaire by Sundee T. Frazier. We continue to live our motto “Galloping to Greatness”! We ARE.,..CES and WE ARE.. stronger together!
