"Plantersville Elementary School helps all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate by implementing 21st Century learning environments. Our students are provided a safe, nurturing, and academically inviting environment daily. Staff members are involved in consistent staff development opportunities centered on best practices. This is our sixth year implementing the Everyday Math Program to provide more hands on instruction for our students. The reading curriculum focuses on predictable structures, independent reading, small group instruction, guided reading, and exploratory learning via science kits.
Students are engaged in technology daily through one to one devices. We enhanced our computer assisted instruction by utilizing a program that provided additional instruction and practices for students in the area of reading and math based on each students' individual MAP data. Our classrooms use individual mini computers for research and to explore new learning opportunities.
Plantersville Elementary School's focus extends beyond the school day. We currently in our 4th year of offering a 21st CCLC after school program made possible through the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant sponsored by one of our community partners, The Village Group. Students are also recognized for exemplifying life skills through Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) and Character Education Programs. We celebrate these behaviors monthly by recognizing students through our Student of the Month Program and utilizing the First Tee Character words which are taught in Physical Education and Guidance lessons. In addition, we have supports in place for students needing additional interventions in which these students are provided more intensive instruction several times a week.
All students at our school enjoy a free breakfast which is provided through a USDA Program. We also deliver healthy fruits and/or vegetables during the afternoons several days throughout the week. These healthy afternoon snacks are made possible through our South Carolina Department of Education Fresh Fruits/Vegetable Grant, which is a grant we have been fortunate to receive for several years now.
The mission of Plantersville Elementary School is to develop within each student the skills and desire to become responsible productive citizens while developing a lifelong love of learning by providing opportunities for all students to learn and be unique through the partnership of students, staff and the community. Thank you for all of your support in helping in the development of our future South Carolina graduates and world leaders!
