Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating a positive, safe, and nurturing environment where the wonderful student body, excellent parents, community partners, and dedicated staff work together to promote high expectations for all students. Geiger’s greatest strengths shine through with the commitment and dedication of this team effort. This team effort is a testament to our success and collectively we believe that it takes “Teamwork to Make the Dream Work!” Together we celebrate our academic achievements.
We are proud of our positive and nurturing learning environment where students work toward being college and career-ready. Students' preparedness remains a top priority, as the teachers and staff work persistently to design lessons that use the gradual release model, integrate subject matter, and differentiation through the utilization of data; ensuring that we meet the needs of each student. Also, teachers focus on the uniqueness of each student by building relationships with students to improve instructional practices and address all learning styles. As a school, we utilize the conveniences of modern-day technology, such as interactive whiteboards, IPADS, Chromebooks, Kindles, document cameras, Google Applications, and video conferencing platforms to maximize our students’ learning.
In addition to providing a rigorous academic curriculum, Geiger continues to focus on the development of the total child, through the implementations of mentoring and educational programs such as Geiger Gems, Gents and Pearls, Chorus, Miss Geiger Pageant, Pet Club, Homework Club, Safety Patrol, and multiple award programs. In addressing the total child, students have been assigned to families and given an opportunity to interact with students from other grade levels and other staff members throughout the school. Families meet once a month to build a sense of belonging and school spirit. Students are awarded points and are recognized for academic success and participation in family challenges.
At Geiger, students also benefit from our continued implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions Support), which strongly supports the development of positive social skills and the reduction of behavior problems. Teachers believe in teaching the whole child using life skills, community building activities, and a focus on students’ socio-emotional learning by way of an embedded time during the day called SET (social-emotional) time.
Our students participated in numerous fun and creative activities throughout the year to address the total child such as; Boo at the Bus/STEM Apple Tower Challenge, Gingerbread House Competition with a choice board of activities, March Madness Battle of the Books, Math Bingo, and Reading Book Carnival Drive-Thru despite the challenges of COVID.
It is our hope that the collective efforts of parents, teachers, and the community will enable students to reach their highest potential and display that “Tiger Pride” of Geiger Elementary in all areas of their life.
