Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing an environment where students are challenged to grow academically as well as socially. Through the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, teachers create lessons aligned to South Carolina state standards. Instructional strategies are varied to meet the learning needs of each and every student. Strong school-community relationships are fostered through various partnerships.
Professional learning communities comprised of teacher teams collaborate to plan lessons designed to challenge and inspire students. Student-centered learning is focused on setting goals and monitoring growth. Instruction is fluid in that it is flexible and adjusted to meet the individual needs of students. Data teams are utilized to recognize patterns in performance and problem solve solutions. A reading interventionist is provided for students that need intensive interventions in kindergarten through fifth grades. Interventions are scheduled during the instruction day which allows access for all students. Through Title I funds, our school is able to provide a math lab instructor for a deeper exploration of math strategies. Kindergarten through fifth grade students become mathematicians as they explore various math concepts. A school-wide math fluency plan outlines grade level expectations and students are monitored throughout the year to make sure they are meeting that criteria. Technology is used in all classes to increase computer proficiency which is vital to developing World Class Skills. Students in grades two through five are provided 1:1 technology.
Partnerships with community organizations allow our students to participate in the Good News Club, The Looney Tunes Bank, Celebration of Character, and Savannah River Ecology Lab activities. Our mentoring program is gaining growing support with the addition of new volunteers each year. School-wide behavioral expectations are taught and reinforced through behavior celebrations. Our school counselor provides whole group lessons designed to address person/social, academic, and career exploration domains. Support is also provided through individual and/or small group meetings. Our special education teachers organized a JES Special Olympics to spotlight the talents of our students.
We are proud to serve our community and encourage stakeholder support. Opportunities to participate and volunteer are provided through Open House, the Veteran’s Day program, Book Fair, American Education Week, Family Reading Nights, field trips, Career Day, positive behavior celebrations, various grade level events, volunteering in the classroom, serving on the School Improvement Council (SIC)/Title I committee, and our Parent Teacher Organization. School information is communicated through the school’s website, the marquee, phone calls, Class Dojo, conferences, classroom newsletters, automated phone calls, family handbook, the Eagles’ Tales newsletter, and social media updates.
