For the 2021–22 school year, Lexington County School District One’s Board of Trustees, staff, students, parents, business leaders and community members stand firm in their commitment to providing a high-quality education for all students. Our schools are not just brick and mortar — they are filled with students and staff who make our school community special. With the vision to “Empower Each Child to Design the Future” in mind, Lexington District One continues the tradition of excellence that is known statewide and is ready to prepare students for an ever-changing, global and complex world.
Lexington District One students continue to perform above the state and national average on the SAT. The 2022 high school graduates earned more than $155.7 million in scholarships. Some Lexington District One seniors earned National Merit Scholarships, and four graduates earned an AP Capstone Diploma, becoming the first students in Lexington District One to earn this distinction, as well as the first to complete the course sequence virtually in the United States.
In 2021–22, Lexington District One once again earned system accreditation from Cognia. Lexington District One also opened a new school, Lakeside Middle and launched the “One for All” initiative, a monthly tribute highlighting some of the students, families and staff who are part of our district family and make it a wonderful place to learn, work and grow. In addition, our students and staff also earned many achievements including Pelion Elementary’s archery team which earned the state, national and world titles; a high school robotics club participated in a STEM national advocacy program; two elementary schools received a grant to create sensory rooms for students; three schools were named Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools®; a high school teacher’s art was featured in a Columbia Museum of Art showcase; a high school choral program earned the S.C. Music Educators Association’s Outstanding Performance Gold Award; two middle school students won the juvenile pairs category of the United States Figure Skating championships; numerous athletes won district and state titles; and the district’s Music Education Program earned the Best Communities for Music Education recognition.
Lexington District One looks forward to the new school year, ready to refocus our school community on the joy and excitement of learning and continue to love, grow, nurture and empower students to design their own futures.
