Kingstree Middle Magnet School of the Arts is helping all students develop the world class skills and life career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, nurturing and academically engaging learning environment. We provide a positive school climate focusing on our school’s mission: “Setting the Course for Success, One Leader at a Time.” Our school’s mission is supported through goals for high student performance and continuous professional development for teachers in order to meet the academic and social needs of the students. We are committed to addressing the academic needs of the students along with their social, emotional, and physical needs.
Our school is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by challenging them with a rigorous curriculum provided through quality teaching, support, enrichment, and reinforcement from our teachers. KMMSA promotes world-class knowledge by offering Carnegie Units for Algebra 1, English 1, and CS Discoveries. Our exploratory classes consist of visual and performing arts, and STEM courses. Student Council, Jr. Beta Club, FBLA, Mock Trial, Academic Challenge, and Student Lighthouse Team extend additional opportunities to students to help develop their World Class Skills. We are in our second year of The Leader in Me (TLIM), this initiative fosters good character and builds leadership skills. Students are recognized and rewarded throughout the year for displaying characteristics of the habits. Our students and staff further developed life and career characteristics by participating in service projects such as food drives and making donations to charities including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They also had opportunities to participate in sports such as football, cheerleading, and basketball.
The staff of KMMSA is committed to designing and implementing learning opportunities that require students to learn and use work-place skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, reflection, and problem-solving. Critical thinking is embedded throughout the curriculum, as learners have to engage in rigorous tasks and activities in the classroom. Learners must use their critical thinking skills and creativity to meet the challenges they experience daily. The challenge may be engaging in debates in social studies, delivering a speech on a given topic, or participating in project-based learning activities. As we prepare students for the 21st century, opportunities are provided for students to engage in computer programming lessons/activities as a part of a collaborative effort between the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics. In addition, our students participated in a creative writing class with the South Carolina Governor’s School for Arts and Humanities.
At Kingstree Middle Magnet School of the Arts, our focus continues to be on student learning. We continually strive to be academically, socially equitable, and developmentally responsive so that all of our students learn in a safe and student-centered environment. We continue to analyze our assessment data for the purpose of improving our practices and to ensure that our students receive the best educational opportunities possible.
