Blue Ridge Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating college and career ready graduates. With an emphasis on creativity and collaboration, students performed well in the arts and competed in a variety of areas.
In the visual arts area, students demonstrated their creativity through participation in the district art show. Almost 20 students entered their work in the Greenville County Art Show and 12 students received awards. One student’s work was named Best in Show. In the performing arts area, band, chorus and strings groups competed in several state level adjudications with outstanding results. At Carowinds, all groups earned an Excellent rating. In the spring, 17 chorus students participated in the Spring Sing at the Peace Center along with almost 200 district middle school chorus students. In band, 6 students were named to the Greenville All County Band, and 5 students joined the SCBDA Region One Honor Band. Honor band students performed at the state assessment and earned a straight Superior rating for the 4th year in a row. Students in the drama enrichment program performed “Beowulf - User Friendly” for the local community and the student body.
Students at Blue Ridge Middle School collaborate daily as they complete classroom assignments and engage in teamwork. The inaugural Robotics Team was formed this year and consisted of three competition teams. As a group, they attended three qualifying events and all three teams received an invitation the State Robotics Competition. A few of their awards include the Design Award at the Electric City Robotics Competition and the Mann Robotics Upstate Qualifier Excellence Award. The first ever RoboCamp will be held over the summer and will allow students to learn more about robotics. More information about the BRMS Robotics Team can be found at https://sites.google.com/greenvilleschools.us/brmsgtt/robotics-teams.
Other students collaborated as they prepared for the annual National Beta Club Convention. Eighth grade students attended the convention and won awards in the following areas: painting, drawing, recyclable art, and mixed media. Student groups collaborated as they performed in the areas of Group Talent and Living Literature. Beta Club members also served at Special Olympics and collected almost $1800 for Pennies for Patients.
In athletics, teamwork and collaboration were demonstrated by players and produced winning records. Region championships were won by both volleyball and girls basketball. Softball had an undefeated season and earned the title of County Champions.
