School Report Card Narrative
Hemingway High School, Home of The Mighty Tigers! - 2020/21
Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of The Profile of The South Carolina Graduate by being committed to student achievement. Hemingway High School endeavors to prepare all students into productive citizens and lifelong learners. The administration, faculty, and staff remain focused on every student meeting The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and challenging environment that is conducive for academic success. Hemingway High School creates such an environment through our school motto and mantra, “Every child, Every day…Together!” With a renewed focus on individual growth and goals, we incorporate this mindset through the efforts of our teachers that allow students to be critical thinkers and through the process of The Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, MTSS, as outlined by Act 213 of The South Carolina State Department of Education. MTSS is a systemic, continuous-improvement framework in which data-based problem solving and decision-making is practiced across all levels of the educational system for supporting students. These efforts include the use of inquiry-based lessons, rigorous, metacognitive activities, and STEM/STEAM Projects, as well as communicating about the individual learning process through ongoing progress monitoring. Teachers, in their continuous efforts, strive to stay abreast of current research-based trends and modes of instruction, utilize Canvas for virtual lessons, and incorporate best practices through various professional development opportunities. Research-based best practices and high expectations optimize student success.
Hemingway High School, recognized throughout the state for sportsmanship, has transitioned towards a history of academia, leadership, and empowerment. Teachers dedicate themselves to professional development with the goal of improving instruction, increasing student learning, and developing student efficacy. A+ Testing Consultants provide individual assistance with ACT Testing strategies and tutorials for students to enhance critical thinking skills that are essential in today’s global society; furthering the transition towards meeting The Profile of The South Carolina Graduate.
Hemingway High School offers a variety of programs, outside of the classroom environment, to prepare students for success. Hemingway High school has an active Student Government, The National Honor Society, coed sports, as well as other groups, clubs, and organizations. Hemingway High School is home to The SCHSL’s Class A-1 High Jump Girls’ Champion and The 2021-22 FBLA State Secretary. These opportunities, for the involvement of all students, foster a nature of active collaborating, problem-solving skills, and working as a team. This level of engagement, along with service learning projects, lends itself to Hemingway High School being recognized as a National Beta School of Merit.
Hemingway High School recognizes the importance of involving local businesses and leaders as stakeholders in effectively educating the young people of the community. As evidence, teachers communicate with parents, and the school hosts Open House, incorporates the use of Student Ambassadors as mentors, hosts regional events, and presents students as future leaders. Parent Communication remains ongoing through the use of conference calls, parent/student messaging systems provided by the district, and The HHS Website.
The continuous support from the community in helping to mold future graduates and leaders of the state, and nation is vital to the future success of all students at Hemingway High School.
