Calhoun County Public School Narrative
The Calhoun County High School family focuses on the development of students’ World Class Skills as identified in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate; and, in the development of productive citizens. Our stakeholder family takes great pride in CCHS and its success. CCHS is a place where every student and most families are known by name; and, a place where students focus on their futures and commit to a standard of excellence that surpasses other schools like ours.
Teachers utilize one-to-one technology to provide and encourage project based learning opportunities. Students work together to solve problems, collaborate, and communicate solutions in creative ways. Classroom instruction addresses financial literacy, leadership development, engineering concepts, and soft skills. As a result of consistent teacher and student interaction with Google Classroom and other online learning opportunities, our students missed little instruction during the 2020 COVID 19 Pandemic.
Teamwork plays an integral role in the Calhoun County High School preparation process. While a small high school, many partnerships and efforts are available to support student growth and development. A partnership with Orangeburg Consolidated School District Technology Center enhances career preparation for students. Formal agreements with Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College (OCTech) provide students opportunities to earn college transfer credits and career path dual enrollment credits including Project Lead the Way. In 2020, the apprenticeship opportunities exploded when the OCTech partnership added CNA, Truck Driving, and Welding certification opportunities. Calhoun County also boasted its second paid apprenticeship student in 2020! The local Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs at Calhoun County High School support academic competitions through Project Lead the Way and Distributive Education (DECA) In 2020 all DECA participants placed in State competition. Completers are usually recognized at a formal ceremony in May of each year. The number of completers in the CTE has grown significantly with 20 recognized in May 2019.
Calhoun County High School develops a World-class student by teaching skills which lead to life-long learning and career success. One hundred percent of students and parents collaborate with school counselors to complete an Individualized Graduation Plan which focuses on college/career readiness. Over 80% of the 2020 graduating class is deemed college/career ready. Students design e-portfolios including the completion of viable resumes and timeless letters of recommendation which support future endeavors. The school diligently supports on-time graduation, and has maintained a graduation rate which is above the state and national average. Evidence proves that teachers and staff at Calhoun County High School believe in teamwork and support a family environment. We recognize that our students are unique and we celebrate the individual success of each one.
