Greeleyville Elementary School is committed to helping all students develop World Class Skills of the South Carolina Graduate by providing them with opportunities that challenges them to be creative, to think critically, and foster communication and collaboration among their school and the community. We are committed to providing high quality educational opportunities for all students as we prepare them for successful college and or career choices.
One way we try to foster critical thinking skills in our classrooms is by allowing our students to be creative and to inquire about topics that are of interest to them. We push our students to dig deeper in their learning by asking guiding questions and providing a variety of resources for students to independently find answers. Throughout their learning, we encourage students to ask and answer their own questions through small group discussions. Our teachers use open-ended questions to encourage discussion and active learning. We also incorporate questioning into our everyday discussions with students. It is important that our students think for themselves. We don’t just give students answers to issues or problems they are having. Instead, teachers may ask students how they could solve the problem.
Our students are required to master rigorous learning standards identified by the SC Department of Education. We have continued to implement the following initiatives: MTSS, The Leader in Me- 7 Habits Model, Title I Tutoring, 21st Century After school Program, Accelerated Reading & Math, Character Development, and a very strong Parenting Program.
As a proud part of the community, we have a rich history of family and community outreach and parent support and collaboration. Our community plays an active and supportive role in our student’s success aligned with our mission to achieve excellence at our school. Our local business partners play an essential role in helping to provide incentives, services and resources for student achievements, and support of student clubs, and other school related activities. Additionally our students participate in community service activities and events as a way of giving back to the community.
Our faculty and staff work hard to meet the academic and social needs of our students. Our administrators and teachers participate in meaningful and ongoing data driven professional development opportunities throughout the year at the school, district, and state level. Professional Learning Communities are implemented to assist with the development and enhancement of teacher strengths and refinement. Our PLC’s focus on instructional delivery, implementation of effective instructional strategies, literacy, analysis of data, MTSS implementation and assessments. While our school year was cut short, we are committed to moving forward to ensuring the successes of all the students that attend Greeleyville Elementary School.
We commend our parents, community, teachers, and students for their efforts in making GES a wonderful place for teaching and learning. We SOAR: We are Safe, Orderly, Accountable, and Respectful. Together we will continue to “SOAR to EXCELLENCE.”
