Saluda Trail Middle School is committed to providing a learning environment where every student feels safe, supported, and empowered to achieve academic success. In addition to our comprehensive core instructional program, we prioritize the development of World Class Skills by providing engaging learning experiences that prepare students for future success. Through our diverse Related Arts offerings, including Digital Arts, Robotics and Engineering, Dance, and Visual Art, students have unique opportunities to explore their interests and expand their talents.
Our instructional staff collaborates through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to design, implement, assess, and refine high-quality instruction. This collaborative process enables teachers to identify student strengths, address areas for growth, and ensure that all learners receive targeted support. Through our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), we strengthen both the academic and social-emotional development of our students while maintaining high expectations for excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics.
As a designated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) school, Saluda Trail strategically integrates world-class skills throughout the curriculum. Ongoing professional development focused on structured STEAM implementation equips teachers to create engaging, interdisciplinary learning experiences that foster creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Saluda Trail is also proudly certified by the Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) Institute, providing students with enhanced opportunities in the arts through funding from the ABC Institute, the South Carolina Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts. By integrating the arts into instruction, students are encouraged to develop their unique voices through self-expression while strengthening connections across all STEAM disciplines.
Our students continue to excel in academics, the arts, and athletics. The Saluda Trail Middle School Band earned a Superior rating and placed second in the AA Division at Music in the Parks at Carowinds. Thirty students participated in the District Honors Choir, showcasing the exceptional musical talent within our school community. Saluda Trail students also demonstrated artistic excellence in the South Carolina Education Association’s 11th Annual Read Across South Carolina Art Contest, earning first, second, and third-place honors.
Additionally, eighty students submitted artwork to the South Carolina State Fair Student Art Competition, earning numerous accolades. Student achievements included third place in sixth grade along with three honorable mentions, first and third place in seventh grade along with three honorable mentions, and second place in eighth grade.
Our athletic programs also enjoyed remarkable success. Both the seventh-grade and eighth-grade football teams captured conference championships, while our wrestling team earned the York County Middle School Championship title.
The accomplishments of our students reflect the dedication and collaboration of our faculty, staff, families, and community partners. Saluda Trail’s unique STEAM program allows students to engage in meaningful project-based learning within their core academic classes while exploring specialized Related Arts pathways. Through our continued partnership with the Arts in Basic Curriculum Institute, students participate in musicals, work alongside artists-in-residence, and receive specialized instruction from local poets and other community partners.
