Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School remains steadfast in its commitment to providing every scholar with a safe, supportive, and academically rigorous learning environment where students are challenged daily to discover, cultivate, and maximize the greatness within themselves. Guided by our vision of inspiring excellence and our mission to prepare students for high school, college, careers, and citizenship, our administration, faculty, and staff continue to develop the world-class knowledge, life skills, and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, our instructional focus centered on accelerating student achievement through the implementation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Teachers used data-driven instruction, ongoing progress monitoring, and targeted interventions to meet students at their individual points of need. Research-based instructional practices, differentiated learning opportunities, and rigorous classroom instruction were enhanced through the use of i-Ready, MasteryConnect, Progress Learning, Edmentum, and Canvas, providing students with personalized learning experiences and timely academic feedback. These efforts supported continuous growth while addressing unfinished learning and strengthening student achievement.
Professional growth remained a priority as teachers participated in weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), instructional coaching, district professional development, and collaborative planning sessions focused on improving instructional practices, increasing student engagement, and enhancing academic outcomes. Through continuous reflection and the implementation of evidence-based strategies, teachers worked collaboratively to ensure every student had access to high-quality instruction aligned with South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards.
Beyond the classroom, Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School offers numerous opportunities for students to develop leadership, character, and civic responsibility. Students actively participate in organizations and activities including Junior Beta Club, Student Government Association, Girls in Pearls, Kultivating Kings, Readers Club, athletics, Project Lead The Way (PLTW), band, academic competitions, STEM activities, community service projects, and student leadership initiatives. These experiences help students build confidence, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills while preparing them for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Creating a positive school culture continues to be a hallmark of Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School. Our faculty and staff remain committed to recognizing student achievement, promoting positive behavior, and fostering meaningful relationships with students and families. Parent engagement remains a priority through conferences, district communication platforms, social media, school events, and an open-door philosophy that encourages collaboration between home and school. These partnerships strengthen our collective efforts to ensure the success of every scholar.
The continued support of our School Improvement Council, families, business partners, faith-based organizations, and community stakeholders plays an invaluable role in helping us provide meaningful educational experiences for our students. Together, we remain committed to developing confident learners, responsible citizens, and future leaders who are well prepared for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
At Hemingway M.B. Lee Middle School, we proudly Roar to Greatness by cultivating excellence, inspiring leadership, and empowering every scholar to achieve their highest potential.
