The mission of Berea Middle School is to provide an environment that balances love, support, and accountability so that all scholars are empowered to reach their fullest potential.
The vision of Berea Middle School is to be an academic site of distinction where college and career readiness skills are prioritized and all scholars have opportunities to access real-world activities and experiences.
Our motto is simple: Work Hard. Be Kind.
At Berea Middle School, we are committed to ensuring that every scholar—regardless of background, language, circumstance, or challenge—has access to the opportunities, experiences, and support needed to be successful. We celebrate the diversity of our school community and recognize the unique strengths our scholars bring to the classroom each day. With students representing a wide range of cultures, languages, and experiences, we strive to create an environment where every scholar feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve.
As an AVID School, our work is guided by the four AVID domains: Instruction, Culture, Leadership, and Systems. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) provides the framework through which we develop college and career readiness skills while fostering a culture of high expectations and opportunity for all. Through schoolwide implementation of AVID strategies and practices, scholars develop critical thinking, collaboration, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for success beyond middle school.
In addition to our six AVID Elective classes serving approximately 130 scholars, AVID is embedded throughout our school. Teachers utilize WICOR strategies—Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading—to create engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning experiences. These practices support academic achievement while helping scholars build the skills necessary to thrive in high school, postsecondary education, the workforce, and their communities.
At the heart of who we are is a fundamental belief that every child can succeed. We believe that when scholars are provided with the right environment, caring and effective educators, high-quality instruction, and strong support systems, they can overcome obstacles and achieve remarkable outcomes. Our responsibility is not only to help students succeed academically, but also to ensure they leave Berea with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and character necessary to pursue their goals and create a successful future.
Everything we do is grounded in one purpose: ensuring that every scholar has the best possible opportunity to make it in life.
