Gregg Middle School (GMS), located in the suburban community of Summerville, South Carolina, is one of seven middle schools in Dorchester School District Two. Approximately 800 students in grades 6–8 are served by a dedicated team of seventy highly qualified teachers, four administrators, and a comprehensive student support team. This team includes four school counselors, a full-time nurse, school psychologist, school resource officer, behavioral specialist, parent engagement coordinator, student concern specialists, school social worker, and full-time mental health counselor. Together, these professionals work collaboratively to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of every student.
Gregg Middle School is committed to developing the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by fostering a learning environment that values critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Through engaging instruction, real-world learning opportunities, and meaningful relationships, we prepare students to become confident communicators, effective collaborators, and responsible citizens prepared for future success.
At Gregg Middle School, our identity is rooted in being Mustang Strong. More than a motto, Mustang Strong reflects the culture and values that guide our school community each day through the four Gs: Grit, Grace, Gratitude, and Growth. These shared commitments shape how we learn, lead, and support one another. Our vision is to provide a safe, structured learning environment that promotes high expectations for student achievement, character development, and lifelong success while fostering a strong sense of belonging for every student.
A spirit of collaboration remains central to our continued success. Professional Learning Communities provide teachers with dedicated time to analyze MAP and district assessment data, share instructional practices, and design engaging, rigorous lessons. Supported by a one-to-one technology model, daily tutoring, Academic Overtime, MTSS interventions, and collaborative student support teams, Gregg Middle School works to identify barriers to learning and provide targeted support that promotes student success.
Gregg Middle School is proud to be a Jostens Renaissance school. In our second year of implementation, GMS was recognized as a 2026 Platinum School of Distinction, placing our school among the top two percent of Renaissance schools nationwide. This recognition reflects our commitment to fostering a positive, connected culture where relationships, belonging, and celebration are prioritized. Through intentional systems that recognize positive behavior, leadership, effort, and growth, students and staff are encouraged to take pride in both individual and collective achievement. Our Mustang Strong culture promotes respect, resilience, and meaningful connections that help students thrive academically and personally.
The impact of this work is reflected in measurable improvements across our school community, including continued progress in attendance, school climate, and student engagement. These outcomes reflect our ongoing commitment to creating an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and connected.
Gregg Middle School provides students with diverse opportunities to explore interests, develop leadership, and apply learning beyond the traditional classroom through leadership classes, academic competitions, robotics, athletics, fine and performing arts, media production, and high school credit coursework. These experiences encourage creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving while preparing well-rounded students for future success.
Strong partnerships with families and the community remain essential to the success of Gregg Middle School. Parents and community members support our school through volunteerism, PTSA events, mentoring opportunities, and participation in school programs and celebrations. We value these partnerships and believe student success is strengthened when schools, families, and communities work together with a shared commitment to learning and growth.
As Gregg Middle School enters the 2026–2027 school year, we are proud of our accomplishments and energized by the opportunities ahead. Guided by our Mustang Strong values and commitment to continuous improvement, we remain focused on strengthening relationships, providing meaningful learning experiences, and ensuring every student is supported, challenged, and prepared for future success.
