The 2025–2026 school year at James F. Byrnes High School has been defined by excellence, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to student success. Through the dedication of our faculty, staff, students, families, and community partners, we continue to provide engaging learning experiences that challenge, support, and inspire every student to reach their full potential.
Our mission remains clear: to prepare every student to graduate on time with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to succeed in college, careers, military service, and beyond. Whether students choose a two-year college, four-year university, technical education, direct entry into the workforce, or military service, Byrnes High School is committed to ensuring every graduate is prepared for the opportunities and challenges of an ever-changing world.
A comprehensive network of support helps students achieve both academic and personal success. Every student is connected with a dedicated assistant principal, school counselor, and Career Development Facilitators who work collaboratively to provide personalized academic guidance, career planning, and postsecondary preparation.
Our commitment to educating the whole child continues through "Grad Groups," which provides structured opportunities for relationship building, social-emotional learning, and character development. These efforts, along with the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, school-based mental health services, and Graduation Coach support, help foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued and connected.
Academic achievement is strengthened through a variety of targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities, including FLEX Time, the Rebel Success Center, Academic Recapture, tutoring, and test preparation workshops. Students also benefit from hands-on, career-focused learning through partnerships with R.D. Anderson Applied Technology Center and the Spartanburg County Master Skills Center, as well as Dual Enrollment opportunities through Spartanburg Community College and the University of South Carolina Upstate. These experiences allow students to earn college credit, develop career-ready skills, and explore future pathways before graduation.
Beyond the classroom, Byrnes students continue to excel in athletics, fine arts, leadership, and service. Participation in Air Force JROTC, student organizations, academic teams, performing arts, and athletic programs provides opportunities for students to develop leadership, teamwork, creativity, and resilience while exemplifying the qualities outlined in the South Carolina Profile of the Graduate. Our tradition of excellence continued this year with outstanding performances and state-level recognition across multiple academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs, reflecting the dedication and talent of our students and staff.
As we reflect on another successful year, we are proud of the culture of collaboration that defines James F. Byrnes High School. Together with our families and community partners, we remain committed to providing exceptional educational experiences in a safe, caring, and inclusive environment while preparing every student to thrive.
