At Pelion High School, we are dedicated to helping all students develop the World-Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We achieve this by fostering a culture centered on our belief: One Team, One Family, One Community.
Cultivating a Positive, Relationship-Driven Culture
Our primary focus is creating an environment where every student feels safe, valued and empowered. This year, our team prioritized relationship-building by using the Capturing Kids' Hearts framework. This process ensures that meaningful, positive student-teacher connections form the foundation of our school day. Alongside this framework, we implement the Lexington County School District One Graduate Profile. Through intentional mentoring and daily practices, we intentionally help students cultivate characteristics like empathy, kindness, resilience and personal responsibility. By supporting the whole child, we ensure our Panthers graduate equipped to navigate and lead in a rapidly changing world, as evidenced by our strong 85% graduation rate.
A Commitment to High-Quality Instruction
We maintain a strong commitment to academic excellence by optimizing our common planning time to elevate classroom instruction. Our educators actively utilize these shared blocks to collaborate. This collaborative learning environment ensures that high-quality, rigorous instruction remains consistent across all courses. By prioritizing professional growth and alignment, we provide every student with the targeted support they need to thrive academically.
Targeted Professional Learning and Assessment
To further elevate student achievement, our faculty engaged in targeted professional learning focused on the design and effective use of learning targets and success criteria. This practice ensures that students understand exactly what they are learning and how to measure their own mastery. Additionally, our teams work collaboratively to develop and implement common summative assessments. By standardizing how we measure learning across classrooms, we are able to collect accurate data, identify instructional gaps and ensure equity and academic rigor for all learners.
