During the 2025-2026 school year, the Warriors continued to thrive in and out of the classroom. Waccamaw High School's award-winning student council was named State Student Council of the Year for a twenty-second consecutive year in the spring of 2026. Our speech team won the state competition and was recognized as a National Award Winner. Our school is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a rigorous curriculum that includes fifteen Advanced Placement offerings, nine PACE-Program for Accelerated College Enrollment classes, four PLTW engineering and computer science classes, PLTW Biomedical classes, and a multitude of high-level honors opportunities. This school year WHS implemented the JROTC Army program after many years of striving for this opportunity.
Waccamaw High School is also fully accredited through Advanc-Ed, a national accreditation body. Our main focus continues to be student academic achievement through the implementation of research-based strategies, collaborative teaching, and rigorous common assessments. Our school consistently monitors and examines all data and uses this information to better plan our instruction and assessment to continuously improve student outcomes. Additionally, over 70% of our teaching staff has an advanced degree. For 2024-25, our average SAT composite score was 1028 and our ACT average was 28. 90% of our seniors received college merit scholarships in 2025. Finally, more than 95% of our students met all state requirements for a high school diploma and graduated with their 2026 cohort.
WHS students are also excelling in numerous extra-curricular activities, service projects, and community organizations. In 2025-26, our athletic teams won several region championships along with numerous individual awards and honors. Also, two individual wrestling state champions, and the boys track and field team won the state title for the second year in a row, as well as seven individual state champions in boys track and field. Furthermore, our concert band received a Superior with Distinction the state assessment, and our chorus traveled to Dollywood to earn three superiors.
Finally, Waccamaw High School students are also active in their community, participating in a multitude of community service projects throughout the year. There is a strong connection between Waccamaw High School and our community, and we will continue to nurture this priceless partnership.
